The 6th discipline in the 2013 WPA shot program is for Stroke shots. Click on the picture of each shot to go to the video!
The stroke discipline starts off with a Resistance Draw Around The Rack for shot 1A. Only the head object ball has to go in, but getting the cue ball around the rack is no easy picnic. Shot 1B is the Snap, Crackle, Pop trick shot. It’s a mini version of a jump-draw. Shot 1C is a Double Kiss Draw where the cue ball stays with the 1st object ball until it collides with the 2nd object ball, which stops the cue balls forward momentum and allows the draw to take. Keep the stroke straight and use a little wrist flick to get the spin. No need to hit it super hard.
The 7 point stroke shots focus on speed control. Shot 2A is a lag shot where two of the balls end up by one short rail and the other ball banks back by the other short rail. Shot 2B is a five rail shot to hit the object ball on a piece of chalk without knocking the ball off. Shot 2C is a 3 rail kick shot to gather the balls into the opposite corner diamond square.
Shot 3A is a fouette or whip draw shot. With only a 2mm gap between the cue ball and object ball, a great stroke is needed to get the requisite spin to get position down table. Shot 3B is Giumelli’s Rendezvous, a shot invented by Sebastian Giumelli from Argentina. The 1st object sets off a chain reaction while the cue ball curves around the blocker to meet the last object ball by the side pocket. Shot 3C is Pelinga’s Response, a shot invented by Mike Massey for Trick Shot Magic. The cue ball double dips the long rail around the blocker to pocket the hanging ball.
Shot 4A is the Stroke Around The Rack shot, a tough fouette where the cue ball arcs around the rack and spins around the table. Shot 4B is a Resistance Draw Around the World. Tons of spin can get on the cue ball due to it being frozen to a line of 4 other balls. Stroke 4C is another Sebastian Giumelli invention using a jump-fouette stroke. The object ball banks and splits the sticks giving a path for the cue ball to come down for the hanging object ball.
The 10 point stroke shots double down on the 2mm whip draw, starting with the classic for shot 5A. If you’re masochistic, you can try the Whip Massacre, invented by Abram “Too Tall” Diaz by adding a machine gun effect to it. Shot 5B is another 2mm whip draw shot, this time opening up the gate and pocketing the object ball in the side. Shot 5C is Mike Massey’s Zig Zag shot which he invented for the World Cup of Trick Shots. The cue ball goes back and forth across the table before spinning down and off the butt to make 2 other object balls.
